The technical complexity came from the integration side. Each retail partner has different APIs, authentication methods, and data formats. We needed to build a system that could normalize this chaos into a consistent, delightful user experience.

Integration architecture
We built an adapter layer that abstracts away the differences between loyalty program APIs. Each brand integration follows a common interface, making it straightforward to add new partners without touching the core application logic.
The synchronization engine runs in the background, pulling updated point balances and available rewards from all connected programs. We implemented smart polling frequencies based on user activity patterns—more frequent updates for programs the user engages with regularly.
For programs without APIs, we built secure web scraping solutions using headless browsers, with robust error handling and notification systems when authentication needs refreshing.
Gamification and engagement
Beyond simple point tracking, Membapp features gamification elements designed to increase engagement. Users can spin reward wheels, complete quizzes about brands, and participate in challenges to earn bonus points.
We built the game mechanics to be configurable by brand partners, allowing each to create custom experiences within the platform. The reward distribution system ensures fair play while creating genuine excitement around earning opportunities.
